Sfantu Gheorghe / Saint George Village

St. George is a commune in Tulcea County, Dobrogea, Romania, village of residence consists only of the same name.

Spill islands formed Sacalin considered a secondary delta.

Sacalin full-Zatoane Reserve (part of the natural biosphere of the Danube Delta) lies in the south of St. George on about 21,000 hectares surrounding coastline. It is a succession of banks with isolated lakes, wetlands, rivers and brackish waters, lakes sandy dunes crossed by parallel reeds. Zatoane Lakes in particular are places of passage, nesting and hatching for swans, herons white, red and yellow, glossy ibis, spoonbills.

The settlement is recent (sec. XVII) as previously the area was submerged grinurile not yet formed. During Turkish before 1878 appear on maps under the names "Cedîrlez" or "Aghios Georgios". According to the 2011 census, the village St. George has a population of 794 inhabitants, Romanian, Lipovans and haholi (Ukrainians). Greeks have gone over the years 1950-1970.
